Hello everyone! I'm starting this blog today with the hope of bringing together the Hobelmann's of the world. If you're a Hobelmann or are related to a Hobelmann, please take a moment to post a comment about yourself. You can also add yourself as a "follower" of this blog. Thanks and I look forward to your posts!

Eric - your blog is a great idea - I'm Al Hobelmann in Alexandria, VA - my grandparents, who are your great grandparents, came over from Germany (Hamelin/Hanover area) in the late 1800s, settling in northern New Jersey. Hope to hear from others.

Erich -
I joined the Hobelmann tribe by marrying the Al H. above 45 years ago. I think I fit right in with your energetically curious relations I've met so far since I'm a female with a boys name (my father wanted a boy). I look forward to hearing about other Hobelmanns.

I'm one of the Hobelmanns remaining in Germany. The Hobelmann part of my ancestry lived/lives in Bremen, where I also grew up.
I'm the only Hobelmann in Northern California. Represent!

Al / Erich, I am a Hobelmann born and living in Stl. Missouri - I have researched my family roots extensively, we are all it seems distant cousins from Hanover.
My G.G.Great Grand father (David) settled in Missouri from Hanover / Amden area in the late 1850s and I believe is the uncle of your (Als) Grandfather and (Erich,s) Great Grand father.
You guys are probably related somehow to (Herman Heinrich) or (August) Hobelmann, Maybe? From what I understood all my life is that I was the last namesake from
my line in America - Glad there are others still w/ the name! Al, you found my wife on face book (Wendy)

Hi, everyone. I'm Paula Hobelmann. I married into the Kansas/Nebraska Hobelmann family 22 years ago. Information about my husband's (Brad's) paternal side is very limited. The story is that Brad's great, great grandfather (Friederick) was born in 1842 at Hanover, Germany. He was raised by another family (Hasenkampf?), but retained his own last name. He settled in DeWitt, NE. Further complicating this mystery is Fred's son, John, passed away in his early 30's leaving very little information about family. Surely we are all realted?!? We are not a big family (John had 2 granddaughters and 6 grandsons), but we would be interested in any family history! Thanks, Erich for starting this!

Eric - Great blog. I'm Lisa Hobelmann, daughter of Al. I know there is a Hobelmann line in the Missouri area, one in Baltimore and there are several Hobelmann's in St. Petersburg, FL, (descended from my grandfather Al's brother, Henry - and one is also named Eric and another is also named Lisa). Hope to hear from more. Great idea. Thanks, Lisa
Erich-
I am also a Hobelmann, although my great-grand father decided that the last 'n' was not needed so he dropped it to just Hobelman. I am currently living in Grand Island, Nebraska, although most of the family was from around the Hebron, NE area. I am just getting started in all this genealogy stuff. I hope to link up to ya soon!

Hi My Great Great Great Grandfather was HERMANN HOBELMANN and he married GEESKE VISSER in Emden in 1843. They Had 4 sons, HERMAN HOBELMANN born in 1843, GERARD HOBELMANN born 1844, JOHAN HEINRICK HOBELMANN born 1846 and BERNARD HOBELMANN born 1849, all in Emden Hanover Germany. The eldest son came out to Australia in 1864 and died in Sydney.
Are there any other Hobelmann's that are connected to this family.
I am Sandra Burger Constantine granddaughter of Henry and Bertha Hobelmann. They had 3 children Henry, Alfred and Mae (my mother). Henry is from Hannover area where his parents had an Inn (photo available) and Bertha is from Brahmsche Germany. They came to the US in late 1800’s abd settled in Passaic, NJ, later Maywood, Nj. Henry jr lived in St Petersburg Florida and Alfred lived in Chevy Chase Maryland and later NJ. He was an engineer with Waiter Kidde co.
Henry’s cousin in Germany was Fritz Schneeberg who was a banker in Hannover and took refuge in Langelsheim just before Hannover was bomber.
Other 3rd generation married names include Dedrick, Jones, Rosenberg and Constantine and Sasinski.
My grandfather Henry Hobelmann was from that family . He came to the US around 1890. I have a photo of His family’s Inn in Hannover area. I will try to post copy of the photo. See my blog below
